The current Knox 2018 Strategic Plan has three overarching goals. Goal 3 is "Ensure a Knox Education for Generations to Come". This goal aims to ensures that the students who graduate from Knox enter society equipped with the ideas and skills needed to lead in a changing, globalized world and to make sound choices for a more socially equitable and ecologically sustainable future.
Relevant Strategic Priorities associated with this goal include:
-Create a contemporary, sustainable, and accessible Knox campus featuring the design, technology, and infrastructure required for a 21st-century education. Plan intentionally and strategically to renovate existing facilities, add revenue-enhancing new facilities, and ensure that facilities are suitable for year-round programming and revenue.
-Ensure the long-term ability for campus operations and infrastructure to adapt to a changing environment and the associated resource availability concerns.

In response to the Strategic Plan goal, "Ensure the long-term ability for campus operations and infrastructure to adapt to a changing environment and the associated resource availability concerns", solar panels were added as a first step toward on-site renewable energy and reducing the campus carbon footprint.

Knox College's President signed the Talloires Declaration in May of 2008. This included a 10-point action plan that generally outlined the actions Knox would take to create
an equitable and sustainable future for all humankind in harmony with nature.
