Local advocacy
A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the municipal/local level:
KPU has advocated for climate action and housing when serving as an advisor for multiple municipal strategies. KPU, represented by a group of faculty and staff, sat as an advisor for the development of the Climate Action Plans for two of the three cities where the university is located, the City of Surrey and the Township of Langley. The City of Surrey's Climate Change Action Strategy was adopted in July 2023. The Township of Langley's Climate Action Strategy was adopted and published in 2021. Similarly, KPU acted as an advisor to the City of Surreys Housing Needs Assessment Report. Specifically, Brent Elliot, KPU's Associate Vice President for Campus and Community Planning sat on the Project Advisory Committee. Brent Elliot is a part of the "Polytechnic University's Executive". The Committee met for five meetings from 2021-2022 to provide guidance and feedback at each stage of the project.

Regional advocacy
A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the state/provincial/regional level:
KPU participated in the development of the Metro Vancouver Regional Growth Strategy. The Regional Growth Strategy outlined a plan to address how Metro Vancouver will address its growth in a sustainable manner over the next 30 years, including considerations like public transit, green spaces, density, and greenhouse gas reductions to name a few. Brent Elliot, KPU's Associate Vice President for Campus and Community Planning, sat on the 2020-2021 Metro 2050 Intergovernmental Advisory Committee. On behalf of KPU, Randall Heidt, KPU's Vice President of External Affairs, wrote a formal letter of support for the Regional Growth Strategy to the Metro Vancouver Regional District's Board of Directors. The Letter of Support and Acknowledgement Letter are attached below.
