A brief description of the green building guidelines or policies and/or a list or sample of buildings covered:
The 2013 Building Energy Efficiency Standards focus on several key areas to improve the
energy efficiency of newly constructed buildings and additions and alterations to existing
buildings, and include requirements that will enable both demand reductions during critical
peak periods and future solar electric and thermal system installations. The most significant efficiency improvements to the residential Standards are proposed for windows, envelope insulation and HVAC system testing. The most significant efficiency improvements to the nonresidential Standards are proposed for lighting controls, windows, unitary HVAC equipment, and building commissioning. New efficiency requirements for process loads such as commercial refrigeration, data centers, kitchen exhaust systems and compressed air systems are included in the nonresidential Standards. A brief description of how the institution ensures compliance with green building design and construction guidelines and policies:
In accordance with LMU's Climate Action Plan, resulting from the signing of the ACUPCC, LMU adopted a policy that all new campus construction will be built to at least the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED Silver standard or equivalent.
The Master Plan Project would further this goal by replacing old, energy-inefficient buildings with new construction designed to meet LEED or similar green building criteria. New buildings would use sustainability design features such as roofs covered with white reflective material to reflect the sun’s heat and reduce demand for air conditioning and
window systems to reduce heat gain and loss. All new buildings, and existing buildings undergoing major renovations, would be integrated into the Campus Energy Management System, which monitors and controls buildings’ heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), and lighting systems to attain energy efficiency and optimize performance.
