Does the institution host a food bank, pantry, or equivalent resource focused on alleviating food insecurity, hunger and poverty among students?:
Yes
A brief description of the food bank, pantry, or equivalent resource:
Loyola Univeristy Maryland's Office of Campus Ministry and Office of Student Development host a food pantry to provide non-perishable food, hygiene products, cleaning supplies, etc. to students who are experiencing food insecurity or financial need. In a world where the cost of higher education is placing greater and greater financial strain on Loyola students, Loyola hopes that this pantry can serve as a resource in alleviating some of that hardships our students might experience.
In addition, Loyola's Center for Community, Service, and Justice and an AmeriCorps VISTA also manage the Govans community fridge and it's donations for local York Road community members and students. The Govans Community Fridge is an initiative started in June of 2022, which seeks to provide resources such as fresh produce, hygiene products, water, and more to York Road residents as well as Loyola students. Our phrase “take what you need, share what you can” is an embodiment of our vision of tying Loyola students to the greater Baltimore community. Our community fridge helps in creating equitable access to food which is one piece of the mission of Loyola's York Road Initiative.
