Parts 1 and 2. Waste per person

Figures needed to determine total waste generated (and diverted):
Performance Year Baseline Year
Materials recycled 21.01 Tons 373.31 Tons
Materials composted 32.27 Tons 10.96 Tons
Materials donated or re-sold 7 Tons 7 Tons
Materials disposed through post-recycling residual conversion 0 Tons 0 Tons
Materials disposed in a solid waste landfill or incinerator 773.15 Tons 869.78 Tons
Total waste generated 833.43 Tons 1,261.05 Tons

If reporting post-recycling residual conversion, provide:

A brief description of the residual conversion facility:
Currently Loyola has three main waste streams: landfill, single-stream recycling, and compost. These are all sorted on campus and then picked up separately by our waste haulers.

Start and end dates of the performance year and baseline year (or three-year periods):
Start Date End Date
Performance Period June 1, 2022 May 1, 2023
Baseline Period June 1, 2014 May 1, 2015

If end date of the baseline year/period is 2004 or earlier, provide:

A brief description of when and why the waste generation baseline was adopted:
The waste generation baseline is adopted to match our climate action baseline for campus (2015) to stay consistent across all sustainability measures.

Figures needed to determine "Weighted Campus Users”:
Performance Year Baseline Year
Number of students resident on-site 3,160 3,292
Number of employees resident on-site 5 5
Number of other individuals resident on-site 0 0
Total full-time equivalent student enrollment 4,657 4,614
Full-time equivalent of employees 909 1,065
Full-time equivalent of students enrolled exclusively in distance education 10 0
Weighted campus users 4,958.25 5,083.50

Total waste generated per weighted campus user:
Performance Year Baseline Year
Total waste generated per weighted campus user 0.17 Tons 0.25 Tons

Percentage reduction in total waste generated per weighted campus user from baseline:
32.24

Part 3. Waste diverted from the landfill or incinerator

Percentage of materials diverted from the landfill or incinerator by recycling, composting, donating or re-selling, performance year:
7.23

Percentage of materials diverted from the landfill or incinerator (including up to 10 percent attributable to post-recycling residual conversion):
7.23

In the waste figures reported above, has the institution recycled, composted, donated and/or re-sold the following materials?:
Yes or No
Paper, plastics, glass, metals, and other recyclable containers Yes
Food Yes
Cooking oil No
Plant materials No
Animal bedding No
White goods (i.e. appliances) Yes
Electronics Yes
Laboratory equipment No
Furniture Yes
Residence hall move-in/move-out waste Yes
Scrap metal No
Pallets No
Tires No
Other (please specify below) No

A brief description of other materials the institution has recycled, composted, donated and/or re-sold:
We receive reports on our recycled and composted materials in tons. The donated items are estimated based on previous volume of trucks donated (~3,000 cubic feet).
