A brief description of the institution’s formal participatory or shared governance bodies:
There are three main governance bodies at Loyola: the Academic senate, Loyola Conference, and the Executive Committee. The governance of Loyola requires a collegial and consultative structure, appropriate assignment of responsibilities, and informed participants.
LOYOLA CONFERENCE:
The Loyola Conference is charged with University-wide issues, such as strategic planning, resource allocation, and administrative policy. The administrators, faculty, staff, and students who serve on the Loyola Conference monitor progress of the university toward its mission and goals and set and approve university-wide budgets, policies, and program with the objective of improving the effectiveness of the university. The Academic Senate is charged with establishing and maintaining the academic excellence of Loyola University.
ACADEMIC SENATE:
The Academic Senate monitors academic conduct and approves programs, policies, and resource utilizations with the objective of improving the educational effectiveness of the University. The Executive Committee is charged with maintaining an open and efficient flow of policy-making processes.
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE:
The Executive Committee facilitates the flow of issues and proposals from the University community to the University’s Governance Bodies and committee, while also making information on the actions and operations of the Bodies available to the University community.

STAFF COUNCIL
Staff Council represents the interests and concerns of all levels of non-exempt personnel employed by Loyola University Maryland. Its bi-monthly meetings provide a safe forum for discussion, receiving important information, recommendations, and voting on matters involving staff and the welfare of the University. Staff Council supports the University and the community through service and special projects and participates in the review and implementation of the University's policies which affect staff.

Loyola has an agreement with the North Baltimore Neighborhood Coalition (NBNC) which is a university-community council. The agreement outlines what each entity - the NBNC and Loyola commits to do. The agreement is for a period of 10 years and they meet monthly where they can provide feedback on institutional decisions that affect them.
