A brief description of the sustainable food and beverage purchasing program:
Sodexo has made several commitments worldwide to become a more sustainable partner. These include what they purchase, how they purchase and where they purchase from. Some examples are:
1. The Sodexo Global Sustainable Supply Chain Code of Conduct.
2. The commitment to sourcing local, seasonal, or sustainably grown products.
3. Sodexo only purchases sustainable fish and seafood.
4. Sourcing and promoting sustainable equipment and supplies.
Here at Marquette, Sodexo follows the same practices. Their produce vendors are contracted to source local first and when available, they purchase. They also source from two local dairies for all milk needs. Sodexo partners with Sysco for their primary supplier. One of the reasons for this is that Sysco’s distribution center is about 40 miles from campus. As far as purchasing practices go, Sodexo was also able to work with Sysco to reduce delivery days. They have recently gone from 3 deliveries per week to 2. Sodexo is always looking for new local suppliers that can meet both campus demand and their strict standards for quality.
