Certain faculty are members of the ActivEarth committee which is associated with the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). ActivEarth works to improve public health, the environment and the economy through greater levels of physical activity and active transportation like walking, bicycling, or wheelchair rolling. ACSM and ActivEarth are partnering with ecoAmerica and Climate for Health to raise awareness of the health impacts of climate change on sports medicine and exercise science and build leadership for active transportation as a climate and health solution.

Miami University's Lean Initiatives Program was the 2018 recipient and is the first university to receive an award from the University of Southern California, Marshall School of Business, Center for Global Supply Chain Management. It recognizes , recognizes organizations that demonstrate outstanding achievement in Lean practices and foster a Lean culture within their organization. Lean culture is in large part Green Initiatives. The award noted that Miami University's MU-Lean has shown an incredible drive to reduce cost and support learning outcomes by the use of Lean principles. MU-Lean has created an eco-system bridging processes, people and systems.

Miami University's Director of Sustainability and Associate Director of Residence Life serve as board members for Sharefest, a service and environmental nonprofit corporation dedicated to the collection and redistribution of items donated by Miami University students and the Oxford community at the end of the academic year. Collected items benefit residents in need and social service agencies throughout the region.

A brief description of the mentoring relationship and activities:
Miami’s award-winning Lean program, which focuses on Green Initiatives among others,, regularly hosts other institutions to learn about the process of Lean training and certification. For example, in May 2018: 20 representatives from the National Air and Space Intelligence Center (NASIC) spent a day on campus in May 2018 . They toured the Geothermal Plant and learned about Miami’s Lean program. The NASIC had contacted the LEan director Al Ryan because of the Miami’s reputation for Lean excellence.

1. The Institute for the Environment and Sustainability conducted a feasibility study for the City of Oxford, Ohio, Environmental Commission to examine whether it was possible for the City of Oxford to sign the Mayors Covenant for Climate and Energy. 2. The Institute for the Environment and Sustainability conducted research for the Clermont-Adams Counties (Ohio) Solid Waste District to develop a plan to prevent people from dumping of non-recyclable materials at recycling drop-off locations. 3. Miami’s Institute for Food Farm partners with the City of Oxford’s Farmer's Market and MOON Co-op.
