Support for Cyclists and Pedestrians 

Does the institution provide secure bicycle storage (not including office space), shower facilities, and lockers for bicycle commuters?:

A brief description of the facilities for bicycle commuters:
Those needing a safe and secure place to store bicycles over summer break and/or winter breaks can store it at the Miami University Police Department instead of taking their bicycle home over break. Bike storage costs $25 for a 3 month storage period. Those wishing to take advantage of this opportunity bring their bike to the Police Services Center located at the Ditmer Parking Lot. A short form needs to be completed and payment for the service will be collected. Their bike will be tagged and placed in our secure storage pod for safe keeping. Miami University Police are here during the academic year Monday through Friday 8 am to 4:30 pm and during summer sessions Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm to assist people in storing your bike. https://miamioh.edu/police/services/bikestorage/

Physical Facilities has included this in all building renovations and new construction projects. Across campus, there are 168 bicycle parking stations for students, faculty, and staff.

Yes

Physical Facilities developed a transportation circulation master plan with the assistance of a consultant/planner and input from the city. The plan has been used to guide the development of the bicycle lanes on campus and in town.

Mass Transit Programs

A brief description of the mass transit programs:
Through a contract with the Butler County Regional Transit Authority (BCRTA), students and employees can get around campus using the BCRTA local and regional routes, which also provide transportation uptown, to several off-campus student housing areas, and to the Hamilton and Middletown campuses. Buses run daily during the fall and spring semesters and winter and summer terms. Students and employees who present a valid Miami University ID pay no fare to ride on the local and regional routes. In FY 2018, the Butler County Regional Transit Authority recorded 486,993 riders on university-funded routes. Miami University provided $2,217,097.96 to Butler County Regional Transit Authority’s transit development fund from student fees to operate this program in FY 2018.

Miami University participates in the AlterNetRides ride sharing program which allows drivers and riders to advertise and connect for transportation to and from Miami University. The program is available at no cost to users who register through the Parking & Transportation Services Website. Miami also offers discounted parking passes for those individuals vowing to carpool/vanpool. Carpool members can purchase a faculty/staff parking pass 60% off the original price. Those that are willing to vanpool will receive the same pass for free.

Miami has reduced parking fees for car/vanpools. Employee surface lot parking permits are $125 for the fiscal year. Carpool members (2 employees) pay $30 per year ($15 each) for employee surface lot parking. There were 131 carpools registered in FY 2018. Vanpool members (3 or more employees) pay $0 for employee surface lot parking. There were 3 vanpools registered in FY 2018.

The Kinesiology and Health Department has 12 e-bikes available for guided bike tours of Miami's campus. Riders can easily pedal from Peffer Park through Western Campus, down to the stadium; from the Oxford Community Art Center to the Miami Art Museum; from the Great Seal to Freedom Summer Memorial; and from McGuffey House to Dewitt Cabin fairly quickly and without sweating. Perfect for alumni and parent visits. This program also educates students, faculty, and staff on the benefits and accessibility of e-bikes.
