A brief description of the graduate-level degree program:
The Master of Environmental Science (M.En.) is a professional degree program that emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach to environmental problem solving and sustainable practices. The program is designed to prepare students, upon graduation, for immediate employment as an environmental professional. Students choose an area of concentration in either applied ecology and conservation, land and water resources, energy and environment, environmental toxicology and pollution control, or sustainability in management and planning.

Ecology, Evolution, and Environmental Biology (EEEB) is a multidisciplinary, interdepartmental program of study and research leading to a Ph.D. degree. The program involves several departments and centers within the College of Arts and Science, and over 40 participating faculty, and takes advantage of Miami's spirit of collaboration and excellent facilities.

Applicants to the Advanced Inquiry Program or the Global Field Program elect to enroll in either a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree in the Biological Sciences or a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Biology (see program details). MA and MAT candidates go through the Master's program together.
The Advanced Inquiry Program (AIP) offers a ground-breaking online graduate degree in affiliation with some of the nation's premier community and learning institutions. AIP students share ideas and develop projects with fellow students and faculty nationwide via web-based learning communities while also engaging in experiential learning onsite at affiliated AIP Master Institutions. AIP Master's candidates use inquiry not only as a tool for integrated learning, but as a powerful agent for student achievement, public engagement, and ecological stewardship. AIP students join an unprecedented national collaboration committed to social and ecological change, with AIP Master Institutions located in Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Denver, New York, San Diego, and Seattle.
The Global Field Program (GFP) brings master’s degree candidates, scientists, educators, community leaders, and others together at key conservation field sites in Africa, Asia, Australia and the Americas for firsthand experience with inquiry-driven education, environmental stewardship, and global understanding. GFP candidates join a growing network of leaders who work collaboratively to affect change in local and global contexts. This program builds on the graduate courses and environmental partnerships of Earth Expeditions. Because the GFP combines summer field courses worldwide with web learning communities, this Master's degree can be completed part-time from anywhere in the U.S. or abroad.

Conservation Biology Certificate
A brief description of the graduate minor, concentration or certificate:
This certificate integrates specialized graduate coursework with the culminating experience the student completes as part of a Master's degree, to prepare students for careers in conservation biology with federal, state, tribal, and local agencies and non-profit organizations. This Certificate provides a value-added component to a graduate degree at Miami University, specifically an M.A. or M.S. in Biology or Botany; Ph.D. in Biology, Botany or Ecology, Evolution, & Environmental Biology; or M.En. in environmental science. By choosing the appropriate coursework, a student can earn the Conservation Certificate simultaneously with earning a graduate degree.

A brief description of the graduate minor, concentration or certificate (2nd program):
The Department of Geography offers both Undergraduate and Graduate Certificates in GIScience. Each Certificate is designed to give students the necessary technical skills and theory-based background to compete in the rapidly growing field of Geospatial Technology. GISci is applied to problems in fields ranging from environmental science, to urban planning, to business decision -making. This certificate program builds qualifications for employment and/or further study in GISci.
Miami’s GISci Certificate is a meant to complement any existing degree program (undergraduate or graduate) or it can be earned by itself.

Students earning a M.S. in Botany or Biology are able to earn an Ecology certificate by meeting the following course requirements:
-Pedagogy training: Complete BIO 689 during the week preceding your first fall semester in residence, and complete BIO 601 during your first fall semester in residence.
-At least two (2) graduate seminars of topical relevance to ecology.
-A minimum of twelve (12) credits of graduate level (e.g., 500 or above). These must include one course in population/community ecology (BIO 671), one course in ecosystem/global ecology (BIO 672), one additional graduate course in plant biology (Botany M.S.) or biology (Biology M.S.), and one course in statistics or mathematical modeling.
