A brief description of the incentive program(s):
Miami's Center for Teaching Excellence supports Faculty Learning Communities (FLCs) for faculty who propose a professional development or course development FLC. Grant-receiving FLCs cover a wide variety of topics of interest to the faculty and Miami students. Some current and recent FLCs with sustainability-related themes include:

Faculty Learning Community on Arts + Design + Health (2021): Explores the ways art and design are integral to health and well-being.
Faculty Learning Community on Disability Studies Grows (2021): The purpose of this community is to build cross-discipline alliances and collaboration that support the expansion and growth of the field of Disability Studies at Miami University. The main focus of the field of Disability Studies has been to develop a social, political, legal, philosophical, representational and cultural critique of the interlocking systems that disempower and oppress disabled people through prejudice, stereotype, structural and material violence, exclusion and neglect.
Faculty Learning Community on Intergroup Dialogue o Race and Ethnicity (2020-2021)

Miami's Boldly Creative Strategic Academic Enrichment Initiative
focuses on funding promising academic programs and research projects that meet certain criteria. Funded projects for 2020-2021 Include sustainability-oriented programs such as:
Enhanced eLearning for Miami Online to offer more affordable and flexible opportunities to reach more students;
Culturally relevant and community-based educational leadership;
Preference-based, person-centered care certification for those working with older adults;
Center for KICKGLASS Change (Diversity programs for the Farmer School of Business):
Feedback loops for diversity, equity and inclusion (assessment project for DEI )

A brief description of the incentives that academic staff who participate in the program(s) receive:
Miami’s Center for Teaching Excellence offers these incentives for faculty proposing a Faculty Learning Community: up to $10,000 for a new FLC, up to $500 professional development expenses for each participant; up to $2,000 for facilitators; $100 for student associates. $1,500 of Miami catering services for meetings; honorarium for invited speakers.

The Center for Teaching Excellence also offers grants to encourage curricular and pedagogical innovations that will result in more engaged and improved student learning. Innovations may be at the course, department, program, division, and/or university levels.

Faculty apply for the Boldly Creative Initiative with a budget for program delivery and one-time costs (i.e. technology, consulting, equipment), which are met for successful applicants.
