SD WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
The Sustainable Development Department is 100% Female. Five Full-time women employees are in charge of highlighting, supporting and advancing sustainability across the campus by engaging all staff and students. The recruitment was open to public and all the UM6P Community, the outcome was that the Sustainable Development Department recruitees are all women. This showcases the UM6P Ambition to promote the women representation in leadership positions, to make progress in gender diversity and closing the gender gap. This diverse workforce naturally leads to a more inclusive culture.
The UM6P Sustainable Development Female leadership is creating a framework to drive forward the Sustainability Agenda of the University by engaging everyone in order to create a positive social and environmental impact. 5 synergetic women are working to advance sustainability in the campus each from its area of expertise:
Dr. Fadwa Baladi
The Head of the SD Department, Dr. Fadwa Baladi, is advancing sustainability at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University through a social inclusiveness leadership management of the sustainable development department. As a female leader, she has established a vision and an action plan to make the campus fairer, more sustainable and more inclusive.
On one hand, she has an open-door policy, the SD Department is always eager to highlight, support and guide all sustainable initiatives at the University regardless of age, race, ethnicity, or educational background. Particularly, her leadership management focuses on providing a safe space for everyone without discrimination and inequity by allowing freedom of speech and creativity.
On the other hand, her Leadership Management has effectively coordinated the SD teams’ efforts towards the submission of STARS Accreditation in a record time. The balance between a rigorous and an empath leader has made her a role model for both staff and students. In fact, she is not only in charge of coordinating all the SD Department initiatives but also of reporting the academics and Research STARS Accreditation Category. Hence, she plays a major role in advancing, highlighting and promoting sustainability in all research centers and graduate programs of the University.
Last but not least, she personally organized call for donations for some colleagues at the University which have effectively awakened the solidarity sense at the campus.
Ms. Maryame Jebbari, Eng.
As an Engineer, Ms. Maryame Jebbari is in charge of the technical Operations at the Sustainable Development Department. She has been a rigorous female leader on highlighting and creating simplified dashboards of complex operations namely Gaz Emissions, Energy Efficiency, Carbon Footprint, Water Use…etc. to the other departments.
Moreover, she plays a major role in the energy efficiency transition, the reduction of GHG emissions and the sustainable water use at the Campus by studying and analyzing the date of the University.
Consequently, she is not only developing technical and scientific strategies and procedures of a green campus framework, but she is also collaborating closely with other departments such the Green Energy Park and General affairs to implement sustainable projects (Carbon Offset schemes, Eco-transportation…etc.) and to tackle climate change challenges at the campus.
Finally, yet importantly, she is overseeing the community partnerships and intercampus collaborations to enhance the public engagement of the university.
Ms. Mounia ZAKI, M.Sc.
Ms. Mounia Zaki is the Project Manager in charge of Waste Management and both the Financial and the sustainable Credential Operations at the Sustainable Development Department. She manages the inventory of the green and clean products to use at the campus, such as organic Food and beverages, Clean Electronics, Green Cleaning products and Recyclable office paper.
In fact, she is working closely with the companies that supply the University with Food and cleaning services in order to use recyclable items and eco-friendly products. She delivered a “Sustainable Purchasing Charter” to all the UM6P suppliers and successfully engaged the General Affairs Office in the UM6P sustainable development framework.
Her Green Purchasing vision is: “The better our green products are, the more successful our sustainable Framework will be”. She has been collecting and analyzing data of all the University Supply Chain to implement better sustainable procedures.
As for waste management, she is currently working with students to implement selective waste sorting trash cans at the Campus.
Overall, she is taking the lead to fulfil her vision and enforce a better implementation of green procedures and operations.
Ms. Milouda Bendahman B.Sc.
Ms. Milouda Bendahman is in charge of the social and the community service initiatives at the SD Department. She has highlighted and organized several calls for donations and social projects at the University. For instance, through the Solidarity Market, the cooperatives and marginalized small business holders in the region were provided a space to promote and exhibit their products. In fact, it inspired students and staff to launch projects for the cooperatives such as BIOTY, the digital platform to sell and buy some of the cooperatives’ natural beauty products.
Moreover, she is also coordinating the UM6P Beldi Break, a social project that aims to help single mothers to ensure a respectful income at the University, has empowered several women in the region. Therefore, the social inclusiveness impact of these projects has encouraged more students to launch other donations calls and conduct their own social projects.
In addition to that, she is in charge of promoting and highlighting the sustainable transportation at the campus.
Ms. Maroua Ameziane M.Sc.
As a Project Manager, Maroua Ameziane has been empowering and engaging students in advancing sustainability at campus.
She is in charge of the Sustainable Development Ambassadors Program that engages students in sustainable peer education. She is highlighting, empowering, and mentoring student to launch sustainable projects and programs through their academic curriculum or the students’ clubs.
Particularly, she manages all sustainable outreach materials by sharing highlights of UM6P sustainable development accomplishments in order to raise awareness about issues related to it in order to encourage the community to adopt eco-responsible and ecofriendly actions.
