The Sustainable Initiatives Fund is an ancillary-fee based project fund which is jointly administed by the Sustainability Office and the Mohawk Students' Association. 4$ is collected each semester from every student, which funds the pool. Funds are then levied to support student employment, student extra-curricular activities and sustainable campus features.
A brief description of the multi-stakeholder decision-making process used to determine which projects receive funding through the sustainability projects fund:
Each semester, the Sustainability Office hosts a campus-wide engagement event called the IdeaBanks Campaign. This campaign uses a combination of in-person and digital outreach to gather student ideas relating to improving campus sustainability - or opportunities for sustainable professional development. Ideas are compiled by the Sustainability Office and brought to the SIF Committee. The SIF Committee contains representation from College administration, student government, student representatives, and the Sustainability Office. Several winnings ideas may be choosen. One idea is choosen to spotlight - the person who submitted the idea automatically wins $500.
