Documentation
Do the figures reported above cover one, two, or three academic years?:
One
A brief description of the methodology used to complete the course inventory :
MSU Office of Sustainability staff received a list from the Registrar's Office of courses offered at MSU and determined how many undergraduate and graduate classes were offered. Office of Sustainability staff sorted through the complete course list and counted the classes that were either sustainability focused or sustainability inclusive. Courses were determined to fulfill this criteria if their course descriptions, learning outcomes and/or course objectives had the primary and explicit focus of sustainability. Sustainability as we understand it encompasses environmental, social and economic well-being. Additionally, using the tool Activity Insight, now called Faculty Success, faculty were given the opportunity to identify if their course was sustainability focused or sustainability inclusive. Those courses have been marked on the course list.
How were courses with multiple offerings or sections counted for the figures reported above?:
Each course was counted as a single course regardless of the number of offerings or sections
A brief description of how courses with multiple offerings or sections were counted:
The MSU Office of Sustainability received an exhaustive list of all courses and sections that are offered in an academic year. The office staff sorted through the document and deleted all duplicate courses, eliminating additional sections and leaving one section per each course remaining.
