ScholarWorks is a shared institutional repository that collects, preserves and provides access to scholarship. Montana State University uses ScholarWorks to publicly publish works by research communities on campus.

Dear Colleagues,

We the faculty of MSU, in support of our land grant mission, are committed to providing the broadest possible access to MSU’s scholarly literature and research documentation. We acknowledge that discovery, access and dissemination of MSU’s research is a valuable mechanism for engaging our peers, our community, and the world.

Open Access to scholarly literature and research documentation increases the impact of research conducted at MSU, thus furthering the spread of new knowledge, not only for our students and affiliates, but for all those who value the pursuit of learning and innovation.

Furthermore, we affirm that access to knowledge is a global issue. Open Access to research helps build knowledge on a global scale, and supports information equality for researchers everywhere.

Therefore, we the faculty, support the publication in journals which allow for open access deposit where possible. Moreover, we encourage our institution to work toward policies and infrastructure in support of Open Access.

APC fund

Does the institution provide an open access article processing charge (APC) fund for employees?:
Yes

A brief description of the open access APC fund:
The MSU Library provides an open access author fund to help remove the barrier between MSU authors and open access publishing.

The Hybrid Fund: $20,000 of those funds will fund articles in hybrid journals. Authors will receive no more than $2,000 per fiscal year on a rolling basis.

The Pure Open Access Fund: $30,000 will fund articles in pure open access journals. These authors will receive no more than $2,000 per fiscal year on a rolling basis.

The Library’s recently renegotiated contract with Cambridge University Press (CUP) allows for open access articles to be published in eligible Cambridge University Press journals. Authors are only eligible for a single funded CUP article.

Does the institution provide open access journal hosting services through which peer-reviewed open access journals are hosted on local servers with dedicated staff who provide publishing support at no (or minimal) cost?:
Yes

A brief description of the open access journal hosting services:
The Montana State University Library provides open access journal hosting services for over 300 journals and databases. Additionally, the MSU Library employs numerous research Librarians.
