NTNU's general education is essential and required for undergraduates that emphasizes on the overall development of the individual to understand the various aspects and relationships of humanity, society, and nature, and to become citizens who actively participate in social affairs.
The core competences of the NTNU’s general education include communication & collaboration, multiple literacy and global perspective, critical thinking & humanistic literacy, aesthetics & taste, active exploration & life-long learning, innovative leadership & problem solving, and social concern & citizenship practice. (http://coursemap.itc.ntnu.edu.tw/course_map_all/ge.php) Its teaching materials cross social, economic, and scientific fields, and its education objective is to cultivate students with holistic, justice, and participative perspectives which is equivalent to sustainable development literacy.
