The Roots & Shoots Club is mainly composed of a group of environmentally-conscious students. They are committed to implementing environmental protection from the individual. They have held nature experience activities and hand-made workshops of environmental protection products. In addition to daily book clubs, film screenings, and workshops, they also advocate environmental sustainability actions on campus from the perspective of students.

During the previous three years, the Graduate Institute of Environmental Education was hosted 5 academic seminars, mainly focusing on environmental education, climate change, and wetland conservation. More than 40 sustainable lectures was hosted, including climate change, animal protection, environmental education, science education, ocean conservation, green energy, marine debris, circular economy, and wetland conservation, etc.

The National Taiwan Normal University Art Museum launched the "In the Name of Tree" art project, leading students into the community to promote public art.
This project combines old urban trees, public art creations, style shops and artists’ entry methods to promote the importance of ecology and aesthetics in the city, such as organizing woodworking workshops, assembling wooden boxes for plants, and planting edible landscaping in community gardens.

A four-day American Grand Canyon climbing project was planned based on the Leave No Trace principle. Before the trip, a series of training was conducted, including physical training, hiking skills, and a complete food and water plan to reduce the impact on the environment.
Students took turns to be the Leader of a day in order to solve and to complete challenges. For example, when wild animals suddenly invaded the camp, they cooperated with each other and resolved the crisis safely without harming the animals.

(1)Graduate Institute of Environmental Education offers Doctoral and Master Degrees. The courses requirements include four categories: (1) environmental philosophies and research methods, (2) environmental core subjects – ecology, habitats, communities, and nature-society interactions, (3) the theories and development of environmental education, and (4) field practices of environmental education in both formal and non-formal settings. Internship and theses/dissertation writings are also required.

The course offered by the Institute of Environmental Education helps students understand environmental behavior, the factors and strategies that affect environmental behavior and environmental behavior related theories. The purpose the course is to help students to experience sustainable behavior by self-select and establish a sustainable behavior, including the use of a variety of rewards, support mechanisms and strategies to eliminate barriers to personal behavior change. These exercise including goal setting, diary writing and inputing the diary on the website every week, discussions in class, statistical analysis of data, conversations with theory, and resulting a final essay. Students must practice daily for one and half month to establish sustainable living skills.

This ecological group was established in 2005, and the main members are students from the Graduate Institute of Environmental Education. They learn and experience nature through the habitat management of the artificial wetland. By deciduous composting and removing the exotic species, students can learn the importance and the value of wetlands.
