Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Formula Student Racing Team - NTHU Racing
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
This plan aims to participate in an international engineering competition-Student Formula, where the students have full authority to lead the design and manufacturing of the vehicle; during the one-year preparation period, the team members were divided into different sub-departments to coordinate and cooperate with each other to jointly design the year’s competition vehicles. The funds required, the processing and manufacturing of parts, etc., are also the opportunities for students to independently seek cooperation sponsorship. There were about 60 sponsors at home and abroad in the season 2020. The National Tsing Hua University Racing Factory established
a self-driving car research and development team in 2019, aiming to independently develop self-driving
systems and introduce them into Formula Student cars. The ultimate goal is to win the German Formula
Student self-driving car project. The National Tsing Hua University Racing Factory has attended the competition
held in Japan 4 times, and has won the second place in the "Best Three Views'', the second and third places in
the "Best Efficiency Award", and the second place in the "Best Electronic System Design Award". Second place
in the electrical car group, and ninth place among the ninety-three teams in 2019. In the weighted ranking of 201 global teams, it ranked 21st, second only to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which is 20th, and ranked second in Asia and first in Taiwan. In the process of production and competition, after observing the suggestions of other teams and professors, the team decided to change from producing the original gasoline car to producing the current electric car. This not only improved the students' design and production capabilities, but also conformed to the world trend to reduce carbon dioxide emission. In terms of design and production, the team has been committed to improving vehicles, including self-made motor controllers, battery management systems, planetary gear reducers, lightweight carbon fiber
composite materials, and so on. In addition, the National Tsing Hua University Racing Factory has also begun to pursue further challenges, moving towards the field of self-
driving cars. Compared to the past two vehicle types, self-driving cars require more effort and technique. Although the development process is relatively long, National Tsing Hua University Racing Factory will definitely work hard to complete the team’s first self-driving student formula car.
