A brief description of the technology used:
University Housing installed LED lighting throughout Bragaw Residence Hall rooms and suite hallways. The installation of over 1,500 Cree LR-6 12 watt fixtures remains the largest single installation in a residence hall in the nation. To date, University Housing has captured a total energy savings of 16.73% monthly. This, combined with the increase in overall visual comfort for residents, and an appealing transformation of Bragaw's interiors, has made for a successful venture.
University Housing also installed LED flourescent tube replacements in Tucker Hall throughout the hallways and stairwells in an effort to test out LED tube lighting in spaces that remain lit for 24 hours per day. Housing estimates they will capture significant savings by using between 12 and 17 watt bulb replacements, while also reducing the harsh visual effects and environmental concerns of flourescent bulbs.
The Transportation Department is additionally installing LEDs in parking decks across campus.
