The Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources administers several technical options in the intercollegiate NC State Natural Resources Masters Program that focus on different aspects of relevant policy and management. Students customize their education by choosing a degree option and a technical option, then combine core courses in natural resources issues with a series of related courses in technical disciplines.
The purpose of the Natural Resources core curriculum is to educate professionals at an advanced level to be well-versed in policy and regulation while also perfecting their quantitative assessment skills. The technical options are designed to enhance each student’s understanding of the processes within an individual option. Courses within the various options are taught in several different departments and provide a broad background with rigorous technical emphases.

A brief description of the graduate degree program (2nd program):
The Climate Change & Society (CCS) program at North Carolina State University is designed to give students an appropriate background in climate change science and its implications for society to support the development of informed policy and business decisions.
Given the effects of climate change will impact a wide variety of sectors, the program is appropriate for individuals who plan to pursue careers in the public, private, or non-profit sectors. Students from a diverse set of academic backgrounds will receive instruction to bolster their knowledge and skills. Incoming students possessing a math or science background will have the opportunity to learn vital communications skills and the policy process, whereas those with liberal arts or business backgrounds will gain fundamental knowledge of climate science.
The Climate Change & Society program consists of a one-year Professional Science Master’s degree (with a 2-year part-time option). NC State’s Climate Change & Society program combines climate change science and climate-sensitive social-economic sector information to support developing sound decisions for adaptation to and mitigation of climate change. Students in the program have the opportunity to learn from international experts in climate science, economics, policy, and communications.
This program supports the goals of students interested in careers in climate change adaptation and current professionals in climate-sensitive sectors who are concerned with the aspects of planning or setting policies affected by global climate change.

A brief description of the graduate degree program (3rd program):
The Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources (FER) is an internationally-recognized leader in graduate education. Currently, over 160 students (70% masters and 30% doctoral) are pursuing graduate degrees in forestry and natural resources, including individuals from Honduras, Costa Rica, France, Czech Republic, Turkey, Sweden, Brazil, Uruguay, India, the People’s Republic of China, Taiwan, South Korea and, of course, all across the United States. Fields of study include forestry; fisheries, wildlife, and conservation biology; natural resources; environmental assessment; and geographic information systems technology.
