A brief description of the campus climate assessment(s) :
The Campus Climate Survey (CCS) was administered in the spring of 2004 and fall of 2010 by NC State's University Planning and Analysis office (UPA) in collaboration with the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity. Currently, The Office of Institutional Research and Planning conducts this. The purpose of the survey was to collect information and opinions from undergraduate and graduate students about the campus climate to better enable academic and non-academic units across campus in hopes to improve the climate for all students, and to help in our efforts to enhance all students' understanding of and appreciation for global perspectives. Topics covered in the survey include: Satisfaction with various aspects of being an NC State student Interactions with others on campus Participation in multicultural activities Perceptions about the role of diversity in higher education The role of NC State experiences in shaping attitudes about diversity Impressions of campus support.

A brief description of the student diversity and educational equity assessment(s):
The Survey Research staff at Office of Institutional Research and Planning conducts student and alumni surveys on a recurring basis. Students (incoming freshmen and transfer, sophomore, graduating seniors, along with several other groups) were asked questions about diversity and racial and gender equity, relating to their attendance of multicultural/diversity events, leadership fostering diversity on campus, level of satisfaction with opportunities to interact with diverse others, general education in understanding diverse cultures and values, instruction quality on respecting the diverse talents and ways of learning, and their world view of being able to interact and work with people from diverse backgrounds.

NC State has carried out assessments through a Staff Well-Being Survey, racial/ethnic/visa status distribution study, GLBT Climate Survey, the Faculty Salary Equity Study and more. Topics include working relationships, communication, leadership, university vision and direction, diversity, work activities, support and professional development, performance evaluation, pay and compensation, campus infrastructure, campus activities, and overall satisfaction. The surveys are intended to be administered about every five years.

A survey about well-being assessed NC State governance and public engagement. Several task forces and advisory committees are in place to continue addressing concerns and recommendations about diversity issues.
