A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :
NC State undergraduate and transfer students are able to participate in a course called "Wicked Problems, Wolfpack solutions. Wicked Problems, Wolfpack Solutions is a special kind of multidisciplinary experience created for all incoming first-year and transfer students and their families. The focus of this five-week online course in 2021 is Global Change, its history, causes and consequences. Students learned directly from NC State faculty who are contributing to diverse solutions around the world. Ancient life, mass extinction, modern ecologies and climate justice are just a few of the topics this course covered. The course is optional, and students earned two (2) NC State credit hours at no cost. In addition to Wicked Problems, Wolfpack solutions, all students have access to an online REPORTER course for composting and recycling education on campus. This course is not required and is not broadly advertised during orientation. Additionally, the University Sustainability Office offers virtual resources available online including information about sustainable student organizations and sustainable features on campus. The Sustainability Office also offers a course through REPORTER that is available to undergraduate, graduate, and transfer students. This module includes insight into sustainability at NC State and tips for sustainable behaviors.
