The P-Patch Community Gardening Program is managed by the City of Seattle Department of Neighborhoods to promote organic urban agriculture among individuals, groups and community. Since 2013, North Seattle College has been the proud sponsor and land provider for the Licton Springs P-Patch. Located in the South end of North Seattle College, the Licton Springs P-Patch started as a student-driven initiative. The Sustainability Committee helped retaining and administering 6 plots on behalf of the school. Student gardeners maintain the P-patch for the benefit of local food banks as well as for the learning of the importance of urban agriculture and sustainability within food systems.

Now in its fifth year, NSC has partnered with the non-profit Adopt-a-Stream Foundation (AASF) to remediate the invasive Japanese knotweed from North Seattle College's >1 acre wetland at the north end of campus. AASF secured a grant from the Department of Ecology to fund this effort, which will require a 10-year monitoring project to ensure it does not return. This is critical because this serves as the headwaters of the West Fork of Thornton Creek. NSC science classes have been integral in this project to date. Students have mapped the existence of Japanese knotweed in the Thornton Creek Watershed.
