A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the municipal/local level:
City of Toronto and ClimateACT Committee: In 2020-21, alongside Ryerson U, York U, and University of Toronto, OCAD U was a member of the ClimateACT Committee chaired by former Environmental Commissioner of Ontario Dianne Saxe. Within this role, OCAD U funded two Research Assistants who worked with primary investigator Prof. James Miller (eventually succeeded by Jeremy Bowes) and co-investigators Maya Mahgoub-Desai and Victoria Ho to contribute a report and presentation to the City of Toronto in October 2020 on “Achieving TransformTO’s Transportation Goals: An analysis driven by best practices to reduce emissions from North American and European cities with an equity lens”. This research informed the City of Toronto’s pandemic recovery strategy.

City of Toronto Circular Economy Working Group (CEWG): From 2019-2021, OCAD U was an academic member of the City of Toronto Circular Economy Working Group which had a mandate to support the City of Toronto's goal of moving toward a zero waste future and a Circular Economy as set out in the Council approved Long Term Waste Management Strategy.
