A brief description of the initiatives specifically designed to recruit sustainability employees from underrepresented groups:
OCAD U's Sustainability Office (The Office of Diversity, Equity & Sustainability Initiatives, called ODESI) has a specific mandate to support equity and inclusion as well as a mandate to continuously demonstrate the connections between decolonization, Indigenization, social inclusion, and sustainability.

By seeking to run programs by and for members of equity-seeking groups, ODESI specifically recruits student staff to highlight the expertise and experiences of students such as with disabilities; who are Black, Indigenous, or from other racialized groups; and from LGBTQ2S+ communities.

Does the sustainability office ensure that sustainability employees complete DEI training?:
Yes

A brief description of the DEI trainings for sustainability employees:
The Advisor, Strategic Sustainability is a permanent and full-time position within the Office of Diversity, Equity & Sustainability Initiatives. The Advisor, Strategic Sustainability is required to take training on the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and participates in all equity and anti-oppression trainings offered by ODESI.
Student staff recruited by ODESI also are required to take onboarding that highlights AODA, anti-oppression, and the roles of sustainability fields to address the historical and contemporary impacts of social exclusion and settler-colonialism.

Does the sustainability office regularly collaborate on events, projects, or initiatives with the institution’s DEI office/program and/or organizations that support underrepresented groups on campus?:

- Sustainable Futures Curriculum Series: Indigenous Learning Outcomes and Graphic Design with Prof Sadie Red Wing

- Sustainable Futures Curriculum Series: Applying the Indigenous Design Charter to your Teaching and Practice with Dr. Brian Martin and Prof Howard Munroe

- Sustainable Futures Curriculum Series: Collaborating with the Land - Amaranth Dye Workshop with Prof Julia Rose Sutherland

Yes

Documentation of the formal DEI and/or environmental or social justice responsibilities:
The Sustainability Committee is a sub-committee of OCAD U's equity committee, called the Educational and Employment Equity Committee.

The Terms of Reference describe the Sustainability Committee's responsibility towards environmental and social justice, such as to "advance a vision of ‘just sustainability’ that foregrounds equity and creates new ways of understanding and acting that strengthen communities, build social capacity and economic strength, and promote positive transformation and change".
