Part 1. Greenhouse gas emissions inventory

Has the institution conducted a GHG emissions inventory within the previous three years that includes all Scope 1 and 2 emissions? :
Yes

A copy of the most recent GHG emissions inventory:
A brief description of the methodology and/or tool used to complete the GHG emissions inventory:
Broader Public Sector reporting methodology - calculates Scope 1 Emissions.

An additional emissions inventory of Scope 1 (onsite and mobile combustion) and Scope 2 (purchased electricity) has been conducted in early 2023 for the baseline year (2016) and the performance year (2022).

The GHG emission inventory was completed in compliance with industry standards, the Greenhouse Gas Protocol A Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard. Emissions for buildings owned by OCAD U and or/under OCAD U's operational control during the baseline period and the performance period were calculated using Excel, with the emission factors for the relevant period (as documented in the spreadsheets). Relevant emission factors are derived from the National Inventory Reports prepared by the Government of Canada**. All Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions were included to the extent that the data was available.

One vehicle* was included in Scope 1 emissions (mobile combustion) for the relevant period of operational control (leasehold).
*The emission factor as per EPA for vehicle: 555g/mile = 555g/1.60934km.
or 344.86 g/km, as noted in the GHG inventory.

The following equation was applied to OCAD U's utility consumption for the calculation of Scope 1 and 2 emissions.

CO2 e(tonnes)=Fuel Use or Activity Level (Unit)*Emission Factor (tonnes of CO2e/Unit)

**Updated emission factors for Ontario-generated electricity, reflected in the National Inventory Reports, are significantly lower in the performance year (2022) than the baseline year (2016). The actual emission factor being used is for 2021.

Has the GHG emissions inventory been validated internally by personnel who are independent of the GHG accounting and reporting process and/or verified by an independent, external third party?:

Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
In preparation for the STARS report, all Enbridge gas and electricity bills for the baseline year (2016) and performance year (2022) have been analyzed and included in the GHG inventory compiled by an external consultant.

All Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions were included to the extent that the data was available. For some properties (condominium units within a multi-unit building) only electricity bills were available and these were included in Scope 2.
