A brief description of the institution’s wellness and/or employee assistance program(s):
Student Wellness:
Art therapy combines visual art techniques with psychotherapy techniques and modalities. Participants in art therapy can learn how to use visual art to help de-stress, becoming more grounded, self-explorations, and self-empowerment while working on mental health in a therapeutic setting.
Art therapy at OCAD U is offered through a weekly group open to any OCAD U students as well as a monthly group for students who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+ group. These group provides students with a space for self-expression, connection to peers, and stress-reduction in a non-judgmental environment. Students may join the groups at any point in the semester.
Student Accessibility Services (SAS) supports undergraduate, graduate, and continuing studies students with disabilities that impact their academics. We provide individualized accommodation plans to reduce disability-related barriers and support students in engaging with their studies.
The Peer Wellness Program supports OCADU social media platforms, and collaborates with community workers such as Peer Wellness Educators, Social Workers, Art Therapists, Accessibility Advisors, Occupational Therapists, and other departments to create successful programming.
Our Peer Support Facilitator also offers individual, 1-on-1 services supporting students with social support, harm reduction, professional development, volunteering and health promotion.
Counselling at the OCADU Student Wellness Centre is a free, short-term, client-centered, non-judgmental service. Licensed/registered, professionally trained counsellors provide virtual walk-in and one-to-one counselling to students experiencing a crisis or seeking ongoing therapy. During certain times of the school year, there may be a waiting list for ongoing counselling services.
