Ohio University has both an Office of Diversity and Inclusion, and an Office for Institutional Equity. "Ohio University is committed to promoting an atmosphere where understanding and acceptance of cultural and racial differences are ensured. The Ohio University Office for Diversity and Inclusion will seamlessly and effectively integrate diversity initiatives into every facet of university life. Their mission is to facilitate an infusion of diversity throughout institutional policies, practices, curricula and programs, leading to a supportive and affirming environment and positive experience for all students, faculty and staff." http://www.ohio.edu/diversity/about.cfm Councils and Committees Presidential Advisory Council on Disability and Accessibility Planning: works in partnership with the Athens City Commission on Disabilities to assure access for those with disabilities. Diversity Alumni Advisory Board (DAAB) Created in 2010, the Board shall be known as the Ohio University Diversity Alumni Advisory Board (DAAB). Its purpose is to connect, inform and serve the University, its alumni and friends through strong leadership, dynamic programs and effective communication that integrate diversity and inclusion initiatives into the daily policies, practices, curricula and programs at the university. DAAB honors diversity by advancing inclusion. DAAB will inform and interface regularly with the Ohio University Alumni Association (OUAA) but will not be a formal subcommittee. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee The Ohio University Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee consists of faculty, student, staff and community representatives who are committed to developing a comprehensive set of University and local activities to honor and commemorate the contributions and work of Dr. King, as well as promote the service mission that has evolved as part of the MLK Holiday and provide opportunities for students and community members to learn about the appreciation of difference and social justice. Appointments to the committee are annual and can be renewed for up to three years.

The Office for Diversity and Inclusion held its 8th (Cultural Competency training) Annual Summer Institute for Diversity Education (SIDE) May 16-19, 2017. The first program of its kind in southeastern Ohio, SIDE is a 30-hour curriculum session that uses intercultural communication techniques to promote cross-cultural learning and builds diversity education and facilitation skills. Launched in 2009, SIDE is designed to promote cross-cultural understanding and inclusiveness, while addressing the needs of campus, local and regional professionals who are interested in and committed to advancing mutual understanding and cultural competence. While based on a college campus and targeting college and university faculty, staff and students, SIDE is open to community members as well and has a “train the trainer component.”

Ohio University received the Equity and Inclusion Award at the annual Ohio College Personnel Association Annual Conference 2016 for our recently implemented Preferred Name and Pronoun Policy.
