A brief description of the composting or mulching program:
The college collects food waste ( fruit and vegetable scraps) from its Culinary Arts teaching kitchens.
Approx. 250lbs of food scraps per week are diverted from the landfill and converted into compost at a nearby garden centre.
Food scraps from the same kitchens are collected on site along with grass clippings from the landscaping dept. and sawdust from the carpenter shops. These are all blended in the on-site “Earth Tub” and the compost produced is then used on the college grounds.
Large prunings are transported to the municipal composting facility for processing.
