The charter or mission statement of the committee(s) or a brief description of each committee's purview and activities:
STARS Project Charter Committee:
After a review and comparison, OC approved the Sustainability Tracking Assessment Rating System (STARS) as the official tool Okanagan College will use to track their sustainability initiatives. STARS is in use currently by over 330 post-secondary institutions around the world, including 93 in Canada, and 17 in British Columbia. This project will include the preliminary planning work to implement STARS as the measurement framework within OC, and specifically the completion of a baseline assessment. Key deliverables of this project include supporting departments and sites with the education and resources they need to build understanding and awareness of STARS among OC staff and students, to be able to complete the initial baseline assessment and generate support for ongoing sustainability initiatives. It is envisioned there will be a Phase II after the initial baseline is established that will address Governance, Committee Diversification (less Leadership team members) and target date establishment for collection periods and annual submission for the Institution going forward. *Note: This project charter committee is intentionally small and focused in order to support the baseline assessment as efficiently as possible; it is anticipated that the committee to support Phase II, where the institutional strategy and plan for future impact will be developed, is more broadly constituted.
