UOIT Professor-developed Carpooling App - Blancride
None
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Blancride is an innovative carpooling app that was developed by UOIT Professor Hamid Akbari. It was piloted at UOIT as the University has a large number of students that commute. Since it's launch in 2014 Blancride has been a major focus of the University's sustainable transportation platform. The Office of Campus Infrastructure and Sustainability (OCIS) has worked closely with Professor Akbari and the Blancride team to ensure the UOIT community understands how to use the app and the benefits of carpooling. OCIS and Blancride have set up booths across campus informing the students about the app. Together, the two teams hope to change the culture of student and staff commuters.
