A brief description of institution owned and/or managed land that is currently third party certified under one or more of the programs listed above, including the year each certification was achieved and/or renewed:
Ontario Tech had submitted the Bee City Campus application in Canada and has been designated as the 8th Bee City Campus in Canada in June 2019 (which highlights our Pollinator project consisting of our community garden plots, 40 bee hives, over 3 hectares of wildflower gardens, tree plantings, solitary bee homes and bat hotels). We follow the five standards outlined under the Tree Campus USA certification, even though we are a Canadian university. The campus Sustainability Committee, consisting of staff, students and faculty acts as the Tree Advisory Committee, working with the OCIS department to guide the conversation of planning, educating and connecting to the community with regards to the campus tree planting plans and activities. We have Care Plan to care for and maintain our tree nursery along with allocating finances (determined on a yearly basis) for tree plantings, maintenance and removals, etc. We celebrate Tree days on campus with service learning opportunities which include volunteer tree plantings and updating our tree inventory.
