Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
CityWatch Program

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
CityWatch is a ‘real time’ application that provides actual energy and material flows for the target city (scale can be adjusted from community to urban conurbation). GHG emissions are derived from several sources including daily traffic counts, electricity and natural gas consumption and estimates for air travel and consumables. Scopes 1, 2 and 3 are provided. CityWatch (citywatch.ml) is available in beta-version for the City of Oshawa. The tool will be used by Ontario Tech U BTech students throughout their four years of studies. Upon graduation these students, and hopefully others within the City of Oshawa, will know what the city’s annual GHG emissions are, what are the greatest contributors, and how these vary seasonally and daily. This new program will be supervised by Dan Hoornweg, Professor and CNG Chair in the Faculty of Energy Systems and Nuclear Science.
