Infrastructure and Operation guidelines: All campus buildings are built to LEED Silver standards (and exceed ASHRAE energy saving targets). Sustainability building design is always one of the key factors that are considered and implemented for new construction/renovation. All RFP documents
Two new buildings/ renovation projects that were completed in the last five years:
SIRC was modeled to exceeded ASHRAE90.1-2010 energy saving over 25% (modeled to have a 44% annual energy savings over ASHRAE90.1-2010), with the actual savings estimated to be greater due to the addition of a 18kw Solar PV system and thermal storage phase change material in all areas with drop ceiling.
The renovation of House 22- Phase change material in walls and ceiling; LED lighting, R46 walls, R60 roof (223 sq m including crawl space)

The SIRC Sustainability and Energy Model proposed design preformed significantly better, exceeding the savings target of 25% over the ASHRAE90.1-2010 Baseline in Heating, Cooling, lighting and Fans (document attached).
The Energy Conservation and Demand Management Plan was developed to fulfill reporting requirements of the Green Energy Act 2009 and to support Ontario Tech U's commitment to improving energy performance and reducing overall energy usage within the built environment, operations and programs. Additionally, this comprehensive plan contributes to the development of a larger foundation and framework that will ensure continuous sustainability integration throughout the
campus and community.

When applicable, environmental preferable materials are preferred; we are starting to ask suppliers to provide life-cycle assessment/CO2 emissions overview and/or environmental third party certifications of their products. Interface, carpet tile supplier has provided us with these requirements of the environmental impact based on our carpet tile orders.

A brief description of how the institution ensures compliance with green building design and construction guidelines and policies:
Ensure compliance by sending copies of CDM2014 Plan and Sustainability Polices and guidelines to consultants prior to new builds. Review aspects of CDM2014 Plan with third parties if necessary. All RFP documents have a sustainability section/component asking vendors/ builders to state their sustainability practices and to outline their green building design plans.
