Oregon State University uses the SIMAP Carbon Calculator. In order to account for and differentiate between all emissions of OSU’s operations across the state, OSU's GHG emissions report is comprised of four different inventories: Corvallis Campus, OSU-Cascades, Hatfield Marine Science Center (HMSC), and The Statewide Public Services, or “Statewides.” All these locations are considered vital facets of the university. Due to the different characteristics of each site, it is not possible to create one calculator for all operations. Therefore, 4 different calculators are created, and the summary table of each one of the 4 calculators is presented in the file attached.

On-site composting includes local processing of pre- and post-consumer food waste from campus as well as landscape debris ad some animal bedding. Not all on-site composting is accounted for in our emissions calculations yet. This will change as data tracking and acquisition improve.

The reporting fields in the table below are reserved for institutions that have NOT already accounted for renewable energy purchases (including RECs and GOs) in their Scope 2 GHG emissions calculations. Other institutions - including all SIMAP users - should report zero ('0') to avoid double-counting.

A brief description of the purchased RECs/GOs including vendor, project source and verification program:
Small amounts of RECs have been donated to OSU by the utility to cover the carbon cost of specific events, namely the 2017 Corvallis Sustainability Coalition Town Hall. These are provided by Pacific Power's Blue Sky program and Green-e certified. 903 RECs were purchased from Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF) in order to offset emissions from the Student Experience Center building. One REC represents the environmental benefits of 1-megawatt hour (MWh) of renewable electricity generated and delivered to the power grid, and are certified by Green-e Energy. The emissions reductions attributable to these purchased RECs were calculated in the SIMAP tool, however they were not included in the Scope 2 Emissions presented above to avoid double counting and to track emissions reductions from RECs separately.
