1st program
Behrend Campus Sustainability Council
A brief description of the employee educators program (1st program):
The Behrend Sustainability Council was established to support and promote sustainability efforts, consistent with campus goals and strategic plan, at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, through discussions and advisement of the Director of Sustainability. Understanding that the continuance of our community, of our society, and of our species requires a change in mindset, it is our mission to incorporate and model the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals in all aspects of campus life.
A brief description of the employee educators program’s target audience (1st program):
The Council will consist of a diverse group of faculty, staff and administration. The Council will be constituted as follows:
Director of Sustainability will serve as Council chair
At least one faculty representative from each school
At least one representative from each campus department, including and especially:
o Business and Operations
o Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
o Civic and Community Engagement
o Housing and Food Service
o Information Technology Services
Additional at-large members, including student representatives, at the discretion of the Council chair
Membership will be by self-nomination and/or Council solicitation and approval. Memberships will be at a term length of at least one academic calendar year, with consecutive terms at the discretion of the Council membership and as per minimum attendance requirements.
The council meets monthly with the Director of Sustainability to learn, discuss, and advise on Sustainability efforts on campus. As the council is composed of employees, this acts to educate the members on Sustainability and how it is being applied/engaged on our campus. Additionally, council members become intimately involved in growing our outreach. For example, the "education subcommittee" of the council works to decide the topics and faculty panelists for our yearly Worldwide Teach-In. Council members have also brought sustainability efforts back to their departments, like Maintenance changing to electric landscaping tools, the School of Business changing the Learning Outcomes, etc. All of these activities, which extend from the monthly meetings, act to engage council members in peer-to-peer education.

Behrend School of Business Sustainability Committee
A brief description of the employee educators program (2nd program):
With two motivating forces – the Behrend campus sustainability strategic plan and the new AACSB requirement in Standard 9 of its 2020 accreditation standards – the Black School of Business has developed the following objectives related to environmental, societal, and governance (ESG) concerns to be added to our strategic plan. Completing these objectives will demonstrate the importance of sustainability and its connection to our school.
