A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about student commuting:
The Purdue Sustainability and Transportation offices gathered transportation related information on the student population in order to determine commuting behaviors. The primary information used to determine the percentage of students that use more sustainable commuting included:
- Parking permits sold (~19% of student population)
- Exclusively distance learning (~2%)
Additional information was gathered but not included in the calculation. This information included: micro mobility ridership (e.g. scooters), total number of privately owned bikes registered with the police department, percent of students living on campus (~31%), and Ridership information for public transit for 1 semester (~200,000 rides).
