Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Sustainability Intern Virtual Networking with VT
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
Radford University and Virginia Tech are both located in the New River Valley, about 30 minutes apart. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the sustainability interns from each institution would meet once annually to develop their network, present their project work, and practice sustainability leadership skills through role playing activities.
Over the last two years, COVID restrictions and precautions led the institutions to consider the opportunities that virtual programming might provide. As a result, Radford University and Virginia Tech have replaced a single annual meeting with a series of virtual meetings throughout the year, focused on networking, professional development, and identifying and troubleshooting common sustainability challenges on our campuses and communities. It is the intent of the programs to continue virtual programming throughout the academic year and eventually host one in-person event in April.
