Part 1. Student commute modal split

Has the institution gathered data about student commuting behavior?:
Yes

Total percentage of students that use more sustainable commuting options as their primary mode of transportation:
69

A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about student commuting:
As part of the regular survey sent to all incoming students, the Sustainability Office regularly includes questions about student commute modes. The last survey on commute modes was performed 2019 survey data, only used NDC and EDC because of sample size.

The survey is sent by email to add incoming students and is administered by the RRC Polytech Intuitional Analysis and Planning department. It was difficult to get sufficient responses for some of the campuses, therefore the data reported only includes student numbers for our two largest campuses - the Notre Dame Campus and the Exchange District Campus, both in Winnipeg.

Part 2. Employee commute modal split

Has the institution gathered data about employee commuting behavior?:
Yes

Total percentage of employees that use more sustainable commuting options as their primary mode of transportation:
12.90

A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about employee commuting:
Although we have regularly surveyed staff about commute modes, our last survey was completed in 2017 which was not recent enough to include in this report.

However, we are able to track transit ridership through purchases of our staff transit Ecopass and we also have some numbers for staff who regularly cycle and carpool based on registrations for the annual Commuter Challenge. These numbers from 2019 were used to calculate the estimated number of staff that use sustainable commuting options are their primary mode of transportation. The total report number of staff who use sustainable commuting options is much lower than the actual number, but it is the most reliable available to us.

Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
The numbers provided for student enrolment and employees differ from PRE-5 because the numbers reported in this credit are for the selected performance year (2019) and PRE-5 are the most recent numbers available. In addition, the numbers reported in this credit are only for the Notre Dame Campus and Exchange District Campus in Winnipeg because they are our two largest campuses and the data is more reliable for these locations.
