The President’s Commission on Pluralism and Inclusion is a long-standing university wide committee. The Commission is presently undergoing restructuring efforts to become a standing committee of the Academic Senate, one of the institution’s governing bodies. If approved, the Diversity, Pluralism & Inclusion Standing Committee will carry on the ideals and spirit of the former President’s Commission on Pluralism & Inclusion providing accountability and legitimacy on issues of pluralism and inclusion to impact (1) advocacy for faculty, staff and students (2) curriculum development, and (3) the collaborative development, transformation, and implementation of policy. The Diversity, Pluralism & Inclusion Committee would also provide oversight for monitoring, assessing, and supporting the implementation of the Inclusive Excellence Framework.

A brief description of the diversity office:
The Office for Diversity & Inclusion serves as a vital resource to develop and implement campus wide initiatives and programs to promote diversity and inclusive excellence to students, faculty, and staff. Through various programs and special projects, the Office continues to foster relationships between RIT and the Greater Rochester Community. Program initiatives include Partnerships in Pluralism, Expressions of King's Legacy Celebration, Educational Trainings/Offerings, and the Multi-cultural Competency Certificate Program. More information on these programs can be found at http://www.rit.edu/diversity/ in the left side bar. In addition, the Office is committed to the development of diversity education and monitors the areas that target diverse populations across the university.

A brief description of the diversity coordinator's position:
Since arriving at RIT, McDonald has spearheaded the development and initial implementation of RIT’s Inclusive Excellence Framework among campus constituents. The 2010 – 2015 Diversity Framework reaffirms RIT’s commitment to growing and sustaining a diverse and inclusive learning, living, and working environment. The Inclusive Excellence Framework, aligned with the university’s 2005-2015 University Strategic Plan, has four dimensions: 1) Access and Success, 2) Campus Climate and Intergroup Relations, 3) Education and Scholarship, and 4) Institutional Infrastructure. Each dimension of the model represents an area in which initiatives are designed to achieve excellence. Goals, objectives, strategies and indicators guide the actions of appropriate university units, including senior management areas, colleges, departments, and programs, in the delivery of initiatives, policies, and practices that advance diversity and inclusion
