RIT Student Government is the governance group representing and serving students at the Rochester Institute of Technology. SG is one of three groups that together contribute members to University Council. SG’s counterparts are Staff Council, which represents RIT’s staff and Academic Senate, which represents RIT’s faculty. Additionally, a member of the Board of Trustees has been appointed to participate in Student Government meetings.

Staff Council is an advisory body to the President, or his/her representative, on issues and decisions which impact Rochester Institute of Technology. Our Staff Council Members communicate to staff about university news, events and initiatives and act as a conduit providing staff feedback and insights on university issues. Additionally, Staff Council initiates policy proposals and revisions, and raises issues for University consideration.

The Academic Senate has 8 standing committees and other ad hoc or task force committees. From Faculty affairs and academic affairs to global education, grad council or resource allocation and budget committee, the senate participates and contributes to the daily governance of the institute. While they make their recommendations to the Senate, the Senate then makes its endorsements for or against policies and reports. It is then up to the higher administration (president and provost) to make their final executive decision.)
