Waste Awareness Campaign
A brief description of the campaign:
Waste Awareness Campaign is hosted by the RIT Student Government Sustainability Committee in collaboration with Engineers for a Sustainable World. Student volunteers collect a day’s worth of trash from around the campus and conduct a "waste audit". Materials are sort it into recycling, trash, and composting. A report of the first campaign was published in an interactive flip-book in 2019: https://www.flipsnack.com/ESWRIT/2019-waste-awareness-campaign.html

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:
The student volunteers assisting with the waste audit learned more about what is and is not recyclable. The "mountains" of trash are located in high-visibility areas around campus, so anyone walking by can see (and smell!) the impact of the waste we produce. The first event also received media coverage from local news stations: https://13wham.com/news/local/rit-students-pile-garbage-in-center-of-campus-to-show-trash-vs-recycling?fbclid=IwAR3LbNcuPwFTwpu0TcU57ZvfZLrVLd6sDaud59DchhBCBF71-MVySwzcnO4
