A brief description of the institution’s rainwater management policy, plan, and/or guidelines that supports the responses above:
RIT is situated amidst nearly 200 acres of wetlands, so storm water management is a priority in every project that is undertaken on campus. The University has a policy that all new buildings must be LEED silver or better. Sustainable sites requirements specified in LEED determine how stormwater is managed at each project. Strategies have included rainwater cisterns in 2 buildings to capture and reuse the water for flushing toilets, green roofs on 3 buildings, and a number of rain gardens an bioswales.
