Name of the campaign:
April/ Earth Week Celebration

A brief description of the campaign:
Each April a variety of campaigns are held during Earth Week, from a dorm energy contest (to see which building can reduce its electricity use the most) to the annual Sustainability Festival. A campus cleanup is always organized by the EcoReps.

The annual Sustainability Festival, planned and implemented by the EcoReps and the Center for Sustainable Communities, serves as an interactive, educational, and entertaining outlet for promoting the College’s commitment to environmentally-conscious living. Student groups, including the Student Government Association, participate, and faculty, staff, and members of the surrounding community are invited.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:
All buildings typically show a reduction in electricity use when we compare use during the contest to the weeks before the contest. The winning buildings will often reduce electricity use by nearly 15% during the contest. We always ask people to continue with energy saving behavior when the contest is over.

Campus Sustainability Month

A brief description of the campaign (2nd campaign):
The month includes campaigns and awareness activities almost every day. Some examples include craft activities using recycled items, a month long GoMaine contest (held with the rest of the state) to see who can cut their fossil fuel use (transportation-specific) the most, eco-films, lectures, and a community prayer for the Earth.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (2nd campaign):
Impact tends to be more anecdotal than measured, but the month-long campaign has become part of our institutional fabric.
