A brief description of the diversity and equity committee, office and/or officer, including purview and activities:
Saint Joseph's College sponsors the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Work Group. The group is led by the Chief Sponsorship and Mission Integration Officer and is composed of faculty, staff, students, trustees, and the President. The JEDI Work Group oversees the College's efforts to create more equitable and inclusive institutional practices with regard to race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, religion, ability, and language, among others. The objectives of the group outlined in the JEDI Action Plan have been incorporated into the College's Strategic Plan. Other activities have included outreach to diverse organizations to strengthen relationships with surrounding communities, the development of a bias incident protocol, creation of an LGBTQ+ statement, establishment of the House of Mercy fund (a fund available for underrepresented students with financial need), and training offerings for the community.
The College is currently holding a nationwide search for our first JEDI Officer.
