Saint Mary's College orientation for new or transferring students includes both explicit and implicit sustainability awareness programs. Tangible awareness programs include:
1. Waste diversion education at the bins in the dining hall and during move-in day.
2. Printed materials in general have been reduced to minimize paper usage and include discussion of sustainability practices and living while on campus.
3. Social sustainability is evidenced through a required Day of Service as part of the Campus Weekend of Welcome.
