A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability, including the issues, legislation, and ordinances for or against which the institution has advocated:
Saint Mary's College - through the acts of its President, Cabinet, and the Director of Community & Government Relations - communicates with its stakeholders at the local and state level on an annual basis. Specifically in 2015, Saint Mary's College President Jim Donahue personally contacted our area legislators to urge them to support SB 350, the clean energy and pollution reduction act.

A brief description of other political positions the institution has taken during the previous three years:
Saint Mary's College has been very involved with issues surrounding student aid such as full funding of the Cal Grant in the California state budget. Also, we have long been a supporter of the Pell grants through the federal government. Saint Mary's College has hosted legislative lunches on campus where our students discuss current public policy and legislation with our legislative delegation. Every year President Jim Donahue goes to capitol Hill to personally visit with our members of congress to brief them on the issues important to the SMC college community
