Offsite: Through a partnership with East Bay Municipal Utilities District (EBMUD), all of Saint Mary's food waste is given to EBMUD and turned into energy that is used to power their facilities.
Onsite: We have a campus community garden that we do not track. It is on a small scale however.

A brief description of the institution’s GHG emissions reduction initiatives, including efforts made during the previous three years:
The institution regularly implements plans to upgrade systems with annual maintenance or major renovation, for example, when HVACs are scheduled to be replaced, they are upgraded to reduce GHG and reduce energy use. This is a regular part of the renovation/maintenance plans. In addition, when new construction is planned, the institution deliberately reviews new and more efficient systems to install to improve the overall institutions use of energy and reduce GHG emissions.
Additional initiatives surrounding composting, alternative transportation, solar energy, and our campus fleet are being implemented and/or further explored.
