A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :
Saint Mary's College orientation for new or transferring students includes both explicit and implicit sustainability awareness programs. Tangible awareness programs include:

1. Waste diversion education at the bins in the dining hall and during move-in day.

2. Printed materials have been reduced or eliminated to minimize paper usage and include discussion of sustainability practices and living while on campus.

3. Social sustainability is evidenced through a required Day of Service as part of the Campus Weekend of Welcome.

4. Every first year receives a water bottle to use during Weekend of Welcome (instead of paper cups to drink water) as well as a reusable to-go container they can use in our dining hall, and our food service provider will take their dirty container and swap it out with a clean one ($4 for replacement container)
