The Sustainability Office sends available job postings to a wide range of offices and departments throughout campus to ensure we are getting a broad range of candidates, this includes sending job postings to our High Potential Program (for first generation and low-income students) and certain cultural clubs. The Sustainability Office makes sure to use inclusive language in all job descriptions and recruitment flyers.

A brief description of the DEI trainings for sustainability employees:
All Sustainability Student Leaders are required to undertake training at the beginning of the academic year. This training includes a diversity, equity, inclusion and allyship workshop, break out session and discussion. In these trainings we define key concepts, discuss identity and why it matters, creating an that environment that celebrates difference, the importance of shifting the status-quo of inclusion and inequity, and making space for marginalized voices.

The biggest event we will undertake this year (2019-2020) in collaboration with our DEI office is our keynote speaker for the 50th Anniversary of Earth Week. The event is titled: Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Allyship in the Environmental Movement: Justice through Healing. The event page can be found here:

The Chair of our Sustainability Committee also has several roles and responsibilities as they related to DEI, including sitting on the College Committee of Inclusive Excellence as well as the Bias Incident Response Team.
